When the Going Gets Tough, Women Buy Shoes

Give a girl the right shoes, and she can conquer the world.
Marilyn Monroe

There are days when the only thing that will make the world right is shoe shopping. But, not any kind of shoe will do. Screw comfortable shoes; we want the highest, skyscraper heels we can stand in without breaking an ankle. Here are my happy heels. We don't walk far, but we look great!

Shoes are your friends. They don’t care if you put on a few pounds or if you’re having a bad hair day. Put on a fabulous pair of heels and you're instantly transformed. You don’t schlep along, you strut with posture erect and shoulders back. They’re beautiful and sexy, and by extension, so are we. Shoe shopping is so much more fun than prescription medication.

Women have always loved shoes. "It might help if you think of shoe shopping as the ultimate happy form of shopping," says Valerie Steele, the author or co-author of more than a dozen books on fashion, including 2013's Shoe Obsession. "If buying a bathing suit is the most humiliating and depressing part of shopping, then buying shoes is the most delightful part. They’re an intimate extension of the body and seem to say so much about our attitudes, aesthetics, sexuality and social status.” "

Think of the power of shoes. Dorothy clicked her ruby slippers three times and was instantly transported from Oz to Kansas. Cinderella was an ash-laden housemaid until glass slippers transformed her into a princess.

You can’t buy happiness but you can buy shoes and that’s the same kind of thing.

Make someone smile today. Take them shoe shopping.
